Projects
Each project by Anna Woźnicka is conceived as a musical journey — bringing together performers, traditions, and stories that might otherwise never meet. Rooted in Jewish musical heritage, these programmes reach across cultural boundaries to create something entirely new.
Chazzanut — the Voice of the Soul
A programme dedicated to the ancient art of the cantor — the chazzan — whose voice served as the bridge between community and the divine. The concert weaves together traditional liturgical melodies with contemporary improvisations, exploring how this deeply personal form of prayer continues to resonate today.
Echoes of the Lost Shtetl — The Songs They Left Behind
A tribute to the vanished world of the Eastern European Jewish village. Drawing on Yiddish folk songs, lullabies, and dance music, this programme reconstructs the soundscape of a culture that was nearly erased — and imagines how those songs might have evolved had history unfolded differently.
Between Worlds — The Night of Nigunim
Nigunim are wordless melodies of Hasidic tradition, often sung to nonsense syllables, carrying an emotional weight that transcends language. This late-night programme invites the audience into a meditative space where the boundaries between sacred and secular, ancient and contemporary, dissolve.
Reborn Roots
An exploration of how Jewish musical motifs have been absorbed and transformed by surrounding cultures — and how they return, changed yet recognisable, in the music of today. The programme pairs original Jewish sources with the folk and classical music they inspired.
Third Gate — The Road to Memory
Inspired by the architectural symbolism of synagogue gates and thresholds, this programme is a meditation on memory, loss, and the act of remembering. It draws on cantorial music, poetry, and newly composed works to create an immersive ritual of remembrance.
Sounds of Vilnius — Music of the Former Jerushalaim de Lite
Vilnius was once called the "Jerusalem of Lithuania" — a centre of Jewish intellectual and spiritual life. This programme reconstructs the musical world of that city: its synagogues, its theatres, its streets, and the extraordinary musicians who called it home.
